Doodle was born handicapped. It was expected that he would die shortly after birth, but he made it. As he grew, he scooted backwards like a doodle bug,. Therefore, his older brother nicknamed him Doodle. Doodle couldn't walk on his on. His older brother had to carry Doodle every where he went. He pulled him in a cart. The first time Doodle saw Old Woman Swamp, he cried. He cried because Old Woman Swamp was so beautiful. Brother shares the memories he and Doodle made:
So I dragged him across the cotton field to share the beauty of Old Woman Swamp. I lifted him out and sat him down in the soft grass. He began to cry.
"What's the matter?"
"It's so pretty, Brother, so pretty."
After that, Doodle and I often went down to Old Woman Swamp.
Doodle love Old Woman Swamp. He lived to go with his older brother to Old Woman Swamp. Doodle learned to walk down by Old Woman Swamp. Each day, Doodle and his brother would visit Old Woman Swamp. Doodle's older brother taught Doodle to walk, run and play. No one ever expected this out of Doodle. When he was born, he was expected to die. But Doodle's older brother changed Doodle's life. Doodle experienced the joys of walking, running and playing because of his older brother's determination to teach him.
