People tend to turn to high fat, salty foods when they are stressed. They are pleasing, but can be a bad habit. I agree that nuts, fruit, or cereal are much healthier alternatives. Another option is to have a protein shake or a healthy granola bar.

People should avoid eating in high stress times for a number of reasons. The primary reason being that if we eat when we are stressed or need comfort or are feeling sad, we lose a valuable opportunity for finding a more emotionally healthy alternative for dealing with these emotions. The same can be said for using food as a reward or motivator. Another reason being  the food items we choose for these activities are rarely healthy as in fruits and vegetables. Possibly why so many humans are obese.

A recent story on the Early Show suggested that you snack on Almonds instead of the traditional chips or other non-healthy snacks. If not a fan of almonds they also suggested bluberries,or a cereal that is high in fiber and fortified in B vitamins.

Stress releases certain types of chemicals in the body that may increase cravings for sugars and starch. Rsearchers suggest that a flood of hormones are released up to 24 hours after the stress response, which means you're more likely to turn to comfort foods just to feel calm again. f you're craving something fattening, you're probably looking for comfort food and need something more satisfying than potato chips. Guacamole made from fresh avocados and natural ingredients is your best bet for calming down, fast. Avocados contain high levels of healthy fats and B vitamins, so you can get your energy boost while conquering your cravings.

Although we know that potato chips, pretzels and crackers are ideal snacks at work, doctors nutritionists recommend avoiding them, especially during working hours because the stress level is very high.

Moreover, stressful periods, in the human body, reduce the levels of vitamins A, B, C and magnesium, thereby causing an increase in blood pressure. In addition, doctors point out that a magnesium deficiency in the body can lead to restlessness. Thus, foods such as wheat germ, soybeans, almonds, peanuts, nuts, bread, spinach, plums, bananas and parsley are a rich source of magnesium.

To combat stress is indicated and a cup of tea and lime, which has a soothing effect. The herbal and fruit teas have the same effect on the body.
