In an earlier chapter, Bobby had watched from a safe distance as Skeezie put something through the slots of someone's locker. Whatever Skeezie's had put into that locker, he was certainly very pleased with himself. Instead of scurrying away surreptitiously, Skeezie confidently sashayed down the corridor like John Travolta in Grease.

Bobby's naturally keen to find out what's going on. Of course, he won't be able to discover what Skeezie put in the locker—at least not yet, anyway—but he can find out which locker he put something in. It turns out that Skeezie put something into Colin Briggs's locker, which has Bobby scratching his head:

Why in the world, I am thinking, would Skeezie be putting something in Colin Briggs's locker?

Why indeed? The answer to that question comes later in the book, when Skeezie confesses that he put a somebody-likes-you note into Colin's locker. Apparently, he's been trying to set Addie up with Colin. Addie likes Colin, and Skeezie has generously agreed to act as a go-between. Hence the note he popped in Colin's locker.

On the face of it, this seems rather surprising given Skeezie's notorious cynicism about love. However, as Skeezie explains, he may be something of a cynic about love when it comes to himself, but he certainly has no problems with trying to make other people happy.
