I am going to assume that you are asking about Prince Prospero and his actions. Prince Prospero gathers his friends during the devastation of the "Red Death". "No pestilence had been ever so fatal, or so hideous." What he does, essentially, is gather all his friends and lock them in seclusion in his "castellated abbey". This shut all of them off from the dying world outside. What this tells us about Prospero is that he believes that his wealth and position can hide him from death. He then proceeds to have masquerades parties to take everyone's mind off of the fact that the "Red Death" is killing off the population. Once again it shows how Prospero wishes to hide from reality behind his wealth and luxuries.
