There are many commandments in the Bible's Old and New Testaments about what God expects from those He has created. In Matthew, Jesus is asked about which of all these commandments is the most important:

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

Above all else, Christ asks that His followers first love God completely, and, of equal importance, they should love other people. These two commandments from Exodus are so important that all other laws hinge on these two.
