In The Old Man and the Sea, what do you see as Santiago's main character trait? Ultimately, does this help or hurt him?
Perseverance is Santiago's greatest character trait. He endures the aches and pains of old age, as well as the demands of his job, without complaint. He respects nature, and although his job is to capture and kill the fish, he still can appreciate them. His perseverance is what keeps him going.
