What are the differences between Doctor Faustus and Lucifer?

Lucifer starts the play wholly evil and never changes. Corrupting human souls is his business, and he is fully aware of the evil he is doing as he pursues Dr. Faustus's soul. Faustus, on the other hand, starts out as an imperfect but not evil man. He could have become a good person had he followed a different path and not overstepped his bounds. As the chorus states,

Cut is the branch [Dr. Fausus] that might have grown full straight,
And burnèd is Apollo's laurel-bough

Most humans are tempted by power, and Faustus, a scholar, wanted power both to indulge his desires and also to pursue knowledge. He is not corrupt at first and does not initially completely understand what he has done....
