Antigone is arrested for trying to give her brother Polyneices a proper burial.  After their father Oedipus's death, there was some shakeup in the kingdom.  The new king of Thebes, Creon, considered Polyneices a traitor because he fought against Thebes in the battle with Argos.  Antigone knew that if her brother was not buried, it would dishonor his memory and family, and his spirit would be condemned to wander and never rest.  Despite the king's repeated decrees that he not be buried, she attempted to bury him.  Her sister Ismene refused to help, and when they were arrested Antigone assured the king that she acted alone and Ismene was innocent.

Simply, Antigone defied Creon's decree of Polynices, her brother, of not having a proper burial but she instead gave him one. In those days, the Greeks believed that proper burial should be given so that they could have a chance to enter to the afterlife.

As Polynices fought Eteocles in their fight for leadership in Thebes, the kingdom and its peace was destroyed. Thus, Creon, the King, declared for Polynices not to be buried because he ruined the city.

She was arrested also because she confessed to the crime, without hesistation, thus leading to her persecution.
