What is the crystal seller's dream, and how does Santiago inspire him to follow his dream?

caitlinjoseph10 | Student

The crystal merchant's dream is to make a pilgrimage to the Mecca.  He thinks he will have nothing to live for once his dream is acheived. Santiago is very driven and follows his personal legend, which inspires the crystal merchant to follow his own dream and personal legend.  Santiago teaches the crystal merchant that if he follows his dream he expands his personal perspective.  If he ignores his dreams, his overall happiness suffers and so does everything around him - including his business. He pushes the crystal merchant out of his comfort zone and encourages him to grow.  The merchant finally realizes that his life can be limitless.  He feels weak and somewhat lazy for having wasted so much time and resisting his true calling (personal legend) for so long. Santiago also promises that he will not return home, but will continue on his quest to pursue his own personal legend.
