The second option could also be fun. The giants are all captured and put into a deep pit. Presumably, they are going to live there indefinitely on their new, non-human food source. I can imagine that most humans would be completely on board with that, and the pit might be turned into some kind of viewing spectacle for humans. This does have some textual support, as the BFG did admit early on that he fears humans finding out about giants and sticking him in a zoo. It's also possible that groups of humans could think that England is being inhumane to the giants, and huge protests could emerge around the world demanding that the giants be freed and allowed to go back to their homeland. The BFG himself might unknowingly be the catalyst for this kind of movement, since he is a giant that isn't put into the pit—instead, is given a mansion and a title. Additionally, he is becoming an educated giant, so people might demand that the other giants be reformed to become contributing members of world society, like the BFG is.
