Of the events you have listed here, the first to occur was the explosion that sank the USS Maine.  This was one of the major things that caused the US to get involved in the war, so it would of course happen first.

The Roughriders fought in Cuba to take it from the Spaniards.  Therefore, their fight would have to happen before Cuba was "liberated."

The difficulty here is that Guam and Puerto Rico became territories of the US at the same time that Cuba was "liberated."  This all happened (officially) when the peace treaty was signed in December of 1898.

Guam was actually taken in June.  The Spanish surrendered in Cuba in July and later than month in Puerto Rico.

If you take Guam and Puerto Rico separately and you look at when they were taken by US forces, not when they were officially given to the US, the order should be

  • USS Maine
  • Guam taken
  • Roughriders fight
  • Cuba liberated
  • Puerto Rico taken
