Surendranath Bannerjee (1848-1925) was a writer, professor and politician in India. He founded a school and a newspaper, the Bengali. He became the first political prisoner of British India when authorities took offense at one of his articles. He helped to create the Indian National Congress and was twice voted president of the INC. He wrote the book "Nation in Waiting," a valuable Indian history.
