How is communism represented in the story "Animal Farm?"

Example: Trotsky is represented by Snowball. As Trotsky worked with Stalin shortly after the revolution, Snowball works with Napolean. Snowball is exiled just as Trotsky was exiled to mexico. Trotsky and other communist leaders became enemies to Stalin just as Snowball becamons a threat to Napoleon.

"The struggle of the farm animals, having driven out their human exploiter, to create a free and equal community, or a communist society, which is inspired by the prophetic deathbed vision of Old Major, a prize Middle White boar, the maltreated animals of Manor Farm successfully revolt against Mr. Jones, their bad farmer, and found their own Utopian community, Animal Farm.

The control of the revolution falls naturally upon the pigs, particularly upon Napoleon, "a large, rather fierce-looking Berkshire boar, not much of a talker, but with a reputation for getting his own way," and on Snowball, "a more vivacious pig than Napoleon, quicker in speech and more inventive, but ... not considered to have the same depth of character."

Many believe Orwell made Old Major a symbol for Karl Marx, the father of the Communist belief system. Both Old Major and Karl Marx serve as the founders of a revolutionary creed, and both die before the revolutionary events they predict.

Orwell has chosen the pigs to represent the Communist party loyalists. In the early years of the revolution they were concerned with the welfare of the common workers; as time passed, however, they began to take advantage of their role as leaders. By film's end, the ideals of the revolution have been sacrificed, and the pigs are indistinguishable from the farm's original masters.
