The major risk of sleepwalking is that you might end up somewhere dangerous when you walk.  When I was living in Micronesia, my little brother was sleep walking once and we only found out about it when we heard him screaming outside the house.  He had gotten down near to the river that was outside our house and could easily have fallen in and drowned.  He was at least 50 yards from the house when we found him...

We do not know the exact cause of sleepwalking, yet. Most of the times, it occurs in many members of the same family. Sleepwalking, which occurs at an early age, disappears as the child grows. 15% of normal children, aged between five and 15 years, are sleepwalkers.

A person who suffers from sleepwalking can be helped in these ways:
- he/she will be headed back to bed, when sleepwalking;
- will be protected from accidents or injuries;
- will be gently stopped if she/he will do exhausting or disturbing activities.
