What is "the Bible?" How would you define it?
The best selling book in history is actually a small library of sorts, comprised of different combinations of religious texts that are the foundation of Judaism and Christianity. The Christian Bible is divided into two sections, the Old Testament, which is comprised of the thirty nine books of the Hebrew Bible, organized somewhat differently than in the Jewish text, and the New Testament, comprised of twenty seven books that begin with the accounts of the life of Jesus of Nazareth as recounted by followers Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The organization of the Hebrew Bible is a little more complicated to describe. As stated in eNotes:
The Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh, is divided into three parts: (1) the five books of the Torah ("teaching" or "law"), comprising the origins of the Israelite nation, its laws and its covenant with the God of Israel; (2) the Nevi'im ("prophets"), containing the historic account of ancient Israel and Judah focusing on conflicts between the Israelites and other nations, and conflicts among Israelites – specifically, struggles between believers in "the Lord God" and believers in foreign gods, and the criticism of unethical and unjust behavior of Israelite elites and rulers; and (3) the Ketuvim ("writings"): poetic and philosophical works such as the Psalms and the Book of Job.
It is interesting to note that there is a marked difference in the tone of the Old and New Testaments of the Christian Bible. Some Christians struggle with the God of the Old Testament, who seems angry and suggests some things that Jesus would never approve of. Some theologians have suggested that the violence related in the Old Testament is more a reflection of the people and the time in which it was written than with the nature of God. Interestingly, there are places in the New Testament where Jesus himself seems to struggle some of the violence and "eye for an eye" philosophies of the Old Testament. When confronted with an adulterous woman who has been brought before him for stoning, which is called for in the Old Testament, Jesus's response is unexpected, basically saying, "Whoever is here who hasn't sinned can throw the first stone," then instructing the woman to "Go and sin no more".
It is also noteworthy that the Christian Bible in general, and Jesus in particular, play a role, although not a central one, in the teachings and beliefs of Islam.
I would define the Bible as a religious book read by the christian faith. It is a book with a collection of stories about prophets, that were built and collected overtime.
First i will tell you the two different beliefs one the islamic belief and second the christian belief. In islam bible is know as injil, the book given to PROPHET JESUS and was the word of God.But was only sent for the jews(israelites) and thats what the bible says jesus christ (pbuh) says to his decipals go matthew 10:5 "go not in the way of the gentiles but to the lost sheep of israel".Mathhew 15:24 jesus christ pbuh says"i was sent only for the lost sheep of israel ".Islamic belief differ from the christian one when they say the bible has not been corrupted. Many changes have occured according to muslims and historians. The bible was written centuries after jesus was ascended to the heaven, thats what the christians believe and written by some men.The author of the books in the bible are till now not confirm.
