There are major benefits of genetic engineering in many areas including medicine, agriculture and even industrial production.  One of the major ones is producing vaccines or other products such as insulin that have been made significantly cheaper and more effective through genetic engineering.

In agriculture, engineering plants has produced huge increases in yields and better response to certain fertilizers or resistance to certain diseases or insects.

There are also huge benefits for experimental scientists as they can use genetic engineering to find out the specific function of various genes by removing one or deactivating it in order to understand the specific effects.
