Ballistic stretching is a type of exercises performed during the body conditioning and training process in which a specific muscle or body part is prepared to perform at its most effective and most energetic.

During ballistic stretching the muscle is expected to be stretched and warmed beyond its limit of mobility. This is to make the muscle stronger, more flexible, and ready for a harder type of workout such as kickboxing, MMA, and other exercises in which muscles are put to the test. As the word intends, "ballistics" stands for "high velocity", so the movements during this type of exercises are more intense and quick.
