I kinda have an idea on what the purpose might be...but I need a more elaborate and detailed (if possible) explanation on the purpose of the book.

Well, the author himself is from Afghanistan, and so we can safely infer that one goal he had in writing this amazing novel was to communicate with a wider readership the tragedy that is Afghanistan, and how it is so different from his childhood memories and how individual lives are caught up against a backdrop of tyrannical violence. However, there are clearly other themes, such as one man's quest to redeem himself from a childhood mistake that has lived with him ever since and unconditional love.
