What is the arithmetic mean of the numbers x=(6.64+2.36):(4.5-1.5) and y=(19-6.4):(4.9+1.4) ?

An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

The arithmetic mean of a and b is given as (a + b)/2

Here x= (6.64+2.36):(4.5-1.5)

=> x = 9 / 3

=> x = 3

y=(19-6.4):(4.9+1.4)

=> y = 12.6 / 6.3

=> y = 2

The arithmetic mean of 3 and 2 is (3 + 2)/2 = 5/2

Therefore the required arithmetic mean of x and y is 5/2.
