In what areas of mathematics do you think major developments will occur in the 21st century? Why?
Now that I have studied a course, I believe many things can and will happen, that are related to math, such as actual halograms and using chips in our bodies, for communication, however, I wanted to hear from experts what they think.
One area of mathematics where major developments will occur in this 21st century is in detailed data analysis as applies to the science and technology sectors. A host of complex data needs to be analyzed, and more so in this age of powerful computers. Mathematicians will need to be innovative in utilizing mathematics to efficiently and effectively study this data so conclusions can be made to facilitate useful decisions in a host of sub disciplines of science and technology.
In particular, the creative use of mathematics in the field of genomics, under the molecular biology umbrella, will be especially required. This is a burgeoning field that requires premier mathematical analysis to make sense of diverse and plentiful data,
Quality statistical analysis is another area of mathematics where major developments will occur this century. This statistical analysis will have applications in modelling visual perception; in analyzing complex financial data as applies to the markets, international accounting standards, and corporate analysis for business decision-making. Statistical analysis will be even more valuable as the complex financial markets continually come up with new investment vehicles as relates to derivatives, exchange traded funds (ETFs), annuities, and more. Mathematical formulas and analysis will assist analysts who make judgements on these investment vehicles and the organizations that promote them.
Mathematics in the 21st century will also entail initiatives as applies to biological data. Mathematics will help in the creation of quantitative, predictive models of biological systems. The goal in the coming years is a greater quantitative understanding of biological function. This is important because it helps researchers have a better understanding of the fields of biology, medicine, agriculture, as well as environmental science. A greater quantitative understanding will help scientists, researchers, and others choose the proper initiatives to undertake in their disciplines for the betterment of medical treatment, crop improvement, the environment, and the preservation of plant and animal life.
