Some examples of social roles include being a daughter, student, teammate, friend, employee, and sister.
Social roles are often examined in sociology as we examine the expectations of varying groups of people in particular situations. These mostly unspoken expectations influence our behavior as we navigate among the various groups in our lives. Different social roles require different behaviors, and we use these social interactions to navigate and make sense of our lives, ultimately giving our lives a better sense of purpose. We each have many social roles in our lives, each one associated with differing expectations, duties, norms, and behaviors that we should fulfill.
