As always, there are many controversies over government policy today and there have been many in recent times. This is particularly true right now because of the extreme degree of enmity between the Republican-dominated House of Representatives and President Obama.
One of the major issues right now is over the health care law known as “Obamacare.” The Republicans hate this law and do not wish to have it take effect. Therefore, they are trying to stop it by preventing it from being funded. Obama, of course, does not agree with this, causing conflict between the two sides.
More generally, there is a great degree of conflict over the size of government and the amount of taxation that funds it. Many Republicans do not want to allow the government to go any further into debt. They believe that the government is too big already and they wish to reduce its size and, at the same time, reduce the government deficit and debt. They are threatening to prevent the debt limit from being raised in October and might force the government to shut down temporarily.
These are two of the most important issues in governmental policy today.
