Solve for the value of x in `1/2x-8=7`

Since -8 does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right-hand side of the equation by adding 8 to both sides.

`1/2x=8+7`


Add 7 to 8 to get 15.

`1/2 x=15`


Multiply both sides of the equation by 2.

`x=15 · (2) `


Multiply 15 by 2 to get 30.

`x=30 `

Solve `1/2x-8 = 7`

Isolate x, therefore add 8 to both sides.  This makes (-8) cancel on left.

`1/2x = 15` Now multiply both sides by 2, as  `1/2*2=1` 

`x = 30`

The solution is x = 30.

Check:

`(1/2)*30 - 8 = 7`

15 - 8 = 7
