There are so many topics that can be seen as unusual. Just think of your context and choose a topic that is not in fashion. Or think of what you like and not too many people know about and you will probably come up with an unusual speech topic.
If these do not help, let me give you a few suggestions.
First, how about you study something common from a historical perspective? I am sure that not many people would know the history of coffee or sugar or anything else that people use on a daily basis.
Second, how about you study the history of debt? There are some really good books coming out about this. And moreover, this topic would be very pertinent to our situation.
I think you get the picture.
A good speech topic would be one which matches the speaker interests. It makes the topic interesting not only for the speaker, making the speech more effective but also to the listeners due to content. Some interesting and original topics are suggested hereunder:
Blooming of flowers in spring
Perching of the birds on naked trees
Writing humor for children
Adverse effects of watching cartoons an children
Can war on terror be won with peace?
