Besides the costs of capital investment (equipment, manufacturing site, shipping facilities, etc.), two of the most expensive initial costs to start a business are advertising (getting the brand name into the competition), and distribution (initiating a system for getting the product both to retail market and to customers). E-commerce minimizes both these costs because of the ubiquitous nature of Internet communication and because of the relative absence of material expenses (billboards, flyers, delivery trucks, etc.). Distribution systems already in place can be accessed by internet and can respond order by order, simplifying inventory problems. Also, of course, payments by customers can be electronic, making e-commebook accounting almost automatic. What is lacking in e-commerce--personal sales contact, demonstrations, conferences, etc. --Can at least partially be accommodated with Skype, conferences, web page demos, etc. Indian commerce in particular is well established and respected on the Internet, and language problems are virtually nonexistent. In addition, India as a market is exploding, giving impetus to ecommerce in both directions.
