Swift (tongue-in-cheek, of course) lists multiple advantages to his plan. First, he says that it will lessen the number of "Papists" in Ireland. Second, he says that it will give poor Irish tenants some valuable property in their children. Third, the money saved by not having to raise children, as well as the value of a "new dish" can be viewed as a major windfall for the nation, and their parents will have saved a great deal of resources. It will also bring customers to taverns, which are licensed and taxed by the government. Finally, the proposal will cause husbands to value their pregnant wives, and mothers and fathers to value their children.
