What action in The Pearl should we not emulate?

Well, if our moral compass is working correctly, we should not emulate the behavior of the pearl buyers. They conspire to cheat Kino out of the money that the pearl is actually worth. We should also not emulate the unknown person(s) who try and steal Kino's pearl in the middle of the night. Finally, we should think about not emulating Kino himself; he was not satisfied with what he had (not that there is anything wrong with wanting more out of life for one's family) and put his family at risk because of his growing desire for more POSSESSIONS, such as a rifle.
