What are four key points in social, political, or economic factors that influenced fashion during the Late Middle Ages?
Some points of social, technological and economic life that influenced fashion in the Late or High Medieval period had to do with the beginning of the Italian Renaissance and with technological innovations.
The technological innovation that replaced the distaff, used for spinning fibers into threads, with the spinning wheel meant that threads could be produced more quickly and easily and that more consistency of quality with variations in thread thicknesses could be produced. The improvements to the loom meant that greater variations to fabric textures and weaving patterns could be produced. In addition, the Italian Renaissance meant that Italian fashions influenced other parts of Europe, broadening fashion styles.
