Flame Skimmers are a type of dragonfly native to the western part of North America with red or dark orange coloring covering their entire body.  Here are three interesting facts about them.

-They tend to have a rounded looking abdomen, thus giving a pregnant or chubby look to the dragonfly.

-They are found mostly in the southwestern US due to the fact that they prefer to make their habitat in warm water environments.  Baby skimmers feed on tiny aquatic life.

-When laying eggs, the female flame skimmer will deposit them in small groups scattered around so the young will not feed on each other as a source of food.
