Really interesting assignment you have there! I must admit, one of the songs that keeps on going round in my head is "Respect" - would be great to use with some of Jane´s verbal duels with Mr. Rochester - she demands to be respected by him and will not accept nothing less. And of course, she is only able or willing to marry him once he recognises that she is a human being in her own right, dependent and without the need of his support or patronage.

I love projects like this.  What you are looking for are songs you already know and like that relate somehow to the novel.  Think of the major themes in the novel, the conflicts, the characters and their personality traits, their motives for doing certain things.  Then, study your song lyrics.  What songs match up in some way?  Whatever your criteria is, explain your reasons for connections.

I think that is a kind of tough one, because the first thoughts in my mind are the classical music generated in her era.

"Where is Love" from the Oliver Twist movie.  This song relates to her loneliness as a child in the orphanage.

"Woman in Love" *

Jane longed to be loved by her employer.  "Love Me Tender"

"More than a Woman"

"One Man, One Woman"

Once she does attract his attention and things seems to work out she recognizes that there are deep problems brewing inside of him.

"Women Walk More Determined"

Jane often found herself alone in her life.  Although she was surrounded by people, they were not her family.  After her marriage falls through, she is once again alone.

"Alone Again Naturally"
