Find `98 + (-6) + (-45)` .

In order to add to integers with opposite signs, subtract their absolute values and use the sign of the larger absolute value.

`|98| - |-6| = 92` Its positive since 98 is larger.

Second,  `|92| - |-45| = 47`

The solution is 47.

To do the following addition

`98+ -6+ -45`

you need to take into account the rule of signs that says:

`+ and +` give `+`

`+ and -` give `-`

`- and +` give `-`

`- and -` give `+`

(two identical signs are equivalent to a single `+` , two opposite signs are equivalent to a single  `-` )

Also any unsigned number shown is equivalent to a positive number.

Thus the above addition becomes

`98+ -6+ -45 =(+)98-6-45 =(+)47`

Thus the answer is `98+ -6+ -45 =47`

In order to make it easier for you, there are a few rules regarding this that you need to learn:

Like signs are ADDED

Unlike signs are SUBTRACTED

So, on multiplication of signs, multiplying:

like signs = PLUS SIGN

unlike signs = MINUS SIGN

Coming towards the presented question that is 98+ -6+ -45, we try to deal with the signs one by one:

98 -6 - 45

Here, since there were two unlike signs before 6 as well as 45, hence they are converted into minus sign on multiplying the signs. Now we move on to further simplifying the result:

=98- 6-45

=98 - 51

= 47

The answer is positive 47, the reason being that since 6 and 45 have like signs they are added first, while minus sign remains intact, then the figure attained is 51, now since 51 and 98 have different signs, hence 51 is subtracted from 98 and we get +47.

SOLUTION

98 + (-6) + (-45)

= 98 - 6 - 45

= 98 - 51

= 47

Hence Solved....

Explanation:-

Positive integers are numbers with positive sign used everyday.

Where as Negative integers are numbers with negative sign. That when multiplied to addition sign gives you a negative sign.

According to the Rules;

+ .  -  =  -
