Wedding Planner for Romeo and Juliet

I am supposed to plan the wedding of Romeo and Juliet.  Can you give me some good websites to go?

I have to include a dinner menu from that time period, a guest list of characters from the story, music from any time period for the ceremony. I also have to research wedding traditions of that time period too and follow them and make a invitation that looks like it was made in that time period.

This sounds like so much fun!  I have included some of the sites I found below for you to peruse.  Remember that the ring Romeo gives would most likely not be a diamond--the diamond wedding ring is a fairly recent popularity.  Much like the flowers in bouquets (each flower has a different and significant meaning), gem stones also have certain meanings.  One of the sites below has the following information about gemstones--you could decide which ring Romeo would have chosen for his lovely bride:

Red Jasper: Love
Green Jasper: Faith
White Jasper: Gentleness
Sapphire: Heaven-bound
Chalcedony: Closeness to God
Emerald: Christian hope
Sardonyx: Chastity or humility
Chrysolite: Heavenly life
Beryl: Purification
Chrysoprase: Virtue
Hyacinth: God's grace
Amethyst: Christ's martyrdom

The last site I've included is actually Italian Renaissance...Verona, Italy being where Romeo and Juliet lived, this would probably be very helpful and realistic.  The feast would have been very important, and nobility would have married in a castle.  The feasts and celebrations might have lasted as long as one week.

Enjoy this assignment.  You will have a blast learning about traditions for weddings and feasts in this beautiful time in history.  Good Luck!

That sounds like a very fun project. I'll try to give you some help. Romeo and Juliet would have lived in Renaissance Italy, which was a time when art flourished. So you can be lavish in your decorating. The bride would not have worn what we consider a traditional white gown; that had not become a custom yet. She would have worn a dress that would show how wealthy her family was, made of the finest brocade stitched with gold and silver threads and maybe encrusted with jewels or pearls.

Although the wedding ceremony was important, probably the most important part would have been the wedding feast. Some feasts would have been open to the whole town, or at least everyone in town would have been given bread and wine.

I found a few web sites for you to get you started. I hope they help. Good luck!
