We have an employee who has had 3 very difficult pregnancies due to pre-eclampsia. She is ordered to bed rest at least 1 to 2 months prior to birth and is off at least 6 to eight weeks after the baby comes. She is in a very high position with our firm, however, there are only 3 employees in her department. Consequently, the other 2 employees are required to cover her job for at least 3 months per year for the last two years. It does cause undo hardship on these employees. The employee in question has stated that she intends to have more children even though her doctors have advised against it. Are we required to keep her present job open year after year or can we place her in a department which is less busy and less pay?
