While historical opinions vary, most would agree that Operation Musketeer was a terrible mistake by the British.  The British did not meet their objective of putting an end to the nationalization of the Suez Canal, it damaged the relationship between the British and the United States, all British assets in Egypt were nationalized, and the success of the Egyptians in this conflict made General Nassar a symbol in the fight against European oppression.  This resulted in a massive push throughout Africa for its people to control their own destiny and rid themselves of outside control.  Before the conflict only four African nations could claim independence, but the chain of events that ensued saw independence achieved in all but seven African nations.
