Was Lewis Carroll a drunk?
I'm researching him for an author project. On many of the sites, he is described as a lunatic and drunk. But on others, they say those accusations are false... so what is true? I'm quite confused at the moment... Oh and any supporting details and facts are very welcome. Thanks in advance!!
Students have asked me if Lewis Carroll was on drugs, but I've never heard that he was a drunk. Either way, the link below has a great description of his life, what he believed in, and why he wrote the types of stories that he did. None of this summary of his life said anything about drugs or alcohol. In fact, it said that he was strict to follow the rules of propriety (manners, and doing what is right socially). He taught at a religious school and never married. It even says how he came up with the story Alice in Wonderland. Apparently, he was on a picnic with friends and a girl named Alice was there. He made up the story right then and there for friends' enjoyment and to show his understanding of the perspective that children have peering into the world of adults.
Remember when you are researching that you must choose valid sources that come from scholars, professors, and experts on the subject that you chose. You could look up the sources that are listed at the end of the link's summary and see if anything there helps you to find more answers to your questions. :)
