Amy (Little) Dorrit, and her siblings were born in Marshalsea debtor's prison.  The family was living in the prison because Mr. Dorrit had gotten into a great deal of money trouble.  Little Dorrit's mother died during childbirth so she does not play a major part of the novel's storyline.  Little Dorrit grows up in the prison and becomes an accomplished seamstress and eventually leaves the debtor's prison, only to return later to care for Aurthur. When Aurthur is released from the prison, he and Little Dorrit marry.
