It is a shame that your instructor is not being supportive and helping you in this. It seems before you think about your introduction you actually need to go back a few steps and actually think about what you want to write in the essay. If you have been given the title above, what you need to do is work on researching and planning your essay, identifying the most salient points of Plato's life and thoughts. So go back over your notes and research into Plato's life and while you are doing that write down all the major points that stand out - what did he contribute? What is most important about what he said? How did his life contribute to his thought?

Once you have about 3-5 major points, then you can begin to think about your introduction. Remember, an introduction to your essay should introduce your readers to the main ideas or topics of your essay, show the person marking the essay that you have understood the title and also a really good introduction will signpost how you are going to answer the question.

So what you should do is start off your introduction with re-writing the essay title in your own words, before indicating the main contributions of thought that you are going to talk about. Your introduction should never actually answer the question outright - you just outline how you are going to answer the question.

Good luck!
