There are many major English novels that you might consider reading. Most of the major English novels are quite long, but there are some shorter novels that are part of the literary canon.

Some short novels include:

Anthony Trollope, The Warden.
George Eliot, Silas Marner.
Horace Walpole, Castle of Otranto
Robert Louis Stevenson, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Mary Shelley, Frankenstein.
James Hogg. Confessions of a Justified Sinner.
Oscar Wilde. The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Lewis Carroll. Alice in Wonderland.

Although longer, many people find Jane Austen’s novels very readable. The sensations novels of the Victorian period, such as Lady Audley’s Secret or East Lynne have such dramatic plots that they are comparatively easy to read despite their length.
