To verify if (-5,-1) is a solution to the system of equation:

x + y = 4 ...(1)

x - y = 6 ...(2)

we can substitute x and y in the 2 equations and see if the two sides are equal.

Substituting x = -5 and y = -1 in (1)

=> -5 + 1 = -4 but the right hand side is 4

This shows that (-5 , -1) is not a solution of the given system of equations.

We'll solve the system using elimination method.

We'll add the 1st equation to the 2nd one:

x + y + x - y  = 4 + 6

We'll combine like terms:

2x = 10

x = 5

y = 4 - x => y = 4 - 5 = -1

The solution of the system of equations is (5 ; -1).

Therefore, the ordered pair (-5 ; -1) is not the solution of the given system of equations.
