for 1/4 inch
since 2 inch = 25 miles
1/4 inch = 25/2 x 1/4 miles = 3.125 miles.
hope this helps.

You can do this by establishing equality of reasons. In this case we have that, two inches account for 25 miles; and the question is; How many inches, represent 60 miles?
This can be stated as follows:
2 inches → 25 miles
x inches → 60 miles
Or as equality between two reasons:
2/x = 25/60
Solving for x, we have:
x = (60)(2)/25 = 4.8 inches
In Part b, you can use the same procedure, that is:
2 inches → 25 miles
14 inches → x miles
Or, in the form of equal reasons:
2/14 = 25/x
Solving for x, we have:
x = (14)(25)/2 = 175 miles
So, in your map we have the following:
60 miles are equivalent to 4.8 inches and 14 inches represents 175 miles.

Scale: 2 inches = 25 miles
1) 1 mile = 2/25 inches
thus, 60 miles = 60 x 2/25 = 4.8 inches
2) 2 inches = 25 miles
thus, 14 inches = 25/2 x 14 miles = 175 miles
