Hamlet finds out his Uncle murdered his father.Bent on revenge he accidentally stabs Polonius (thinking him Claudius).Hamlet takes revenge by killing Claudius and Claudius' son Laertes killed Hamlet.Gertrude is poisoned and dies.
Claudius kills King Hamlet, marries his widow Gertrude and becomes king. Gertrude is poisoned, Hamlet avenges the death by killing Claudius but dies in a fencing match with Claudius' son Laertes.(30 words)
Note: To summarize in 30 words is a very difficult task. If a little flexibility is allowed, the following will be a better summary.
Hamlet is a saga of revenge and tragedy. Claudius kills King Hamlet, marries his widow Gertrude and becomes king. Prince Hamlet vows revenge. He loses his beloved Ophelia and her father Polonius in the process. Gertrude is poisoned, Hamlet obtains revenge by killing Claudius but dies in a fencing match with Claudius' son Laertes, who is also killed. (56 words)
The futility of seeking revenge by taking lives is highlighted in this Shakespearean drama. This important message should also be included in the summary. The events after the death of Hamlet are significant and should also be included if the word limit allows you to do so.
I agree that minimizing to 30 words is difficult. If this is a class assignment, perhaps your professor would like you to narrow in on the main focus and not all the details of the play?
"Upon learning of his father's murder at the hands of his uncle, Hamlet is determined to avenge his father with no regard to anyone who may fall along the way."
