Is this thesis strong enough to support my essay if I am using the theme of loneliness and isolation?: "Of Mice and Men is a novel about friendship, though it shows signs of isolation and loneliness in characters such as George and Lennie, and Curley's wife."
I'm writing a literary analysis on the novel Of Mice and Men and can't come up with any strong thesis ideas. This is one of the ones I came up with.
Yes, I think that you can write your essay using your thesis statement. After writing the essay, you may polish it a bit based on your body paragraphs, but it works just fine as a thesis statement. Are your body paragraphs going to be about each character and how each of them show isolation and loneliness? Are you going to handle George and Lennie together or separately? I vote for separately as each one has different and similar reasons for being isolated and lonely. For example, George didn't really want to be Lennie's watchdog, but found some meaning and friendship he didn't expect to find. As for Curley's wife, she definitely needs her own paragraph. I would show how her isolation and loneliness affects the other people around her, especially George and Lennie. So, use your thesis statement and remember to refer back to it in your conclusion paragraph.
