Are there any disadvantages to using a vendor in compliance with HITIS standards?
HITIS refers to the Hospitality Industry Technology Integration Standards project. It is a scheme maintained by the American Hotel & Motel Association with the aim of identifying and standardizing relevant data and functions related to the hospitality industries information technology systems.
The disadvantages of using a vendor in compliance with the HITIS depend on the legacy systems present at a particular location. If those systems are already HITIS complaint then no issues should arise, however if they are not HITIS complaint then using a complaint vendor could result in the following issues:
- System incompatibility
- Prohibitive implementation and integration costs
- Restrictions on tailoring products to fit individual business processes
- Lack of customization
