There are many unsolved problems in mathematics.  For example, the Millennium Problems are 7 unsolved problems for which each solution will give one million dollars to the solver.  Only one of these problems has been solved so far.  Most of what you learn in mathematics in school is the basis to get to the vast number of unknown problems that still have not been solved.  There are thousands of mathematicians that are solving difficult problems every year and producing thousands of papers on a variety of topics.

Many of the more popular problems are listed in the links below.  Even if many of these problems are solved, I think there will always be new ones to solve since our list of questions to ask is only limited by our imagination.
