I'm always uncomfortable with the very last scene, when the tourists (and others) are gawking at the washed-up fish carcass.  Somehow it just doesn't seen fair or right that this mighty fish, who fought so honorably and so valiantly and had already been desecrated by the sharks, should now be so exposed and open to public discussion.  Their very presence says they have money when Santiago had none, and their appreciation for the fish is minimal, at best.  I just don't like it.  How about you?

To be honest, I disliked most of the book.  However, the scenes on the boat were the worst.  I have a person reason for this though.  I was white-knuckle through most of the book, because I am afraid of the ocean!

I feel the same way though it is an accurate way of decribing people of different classes whether you're rich or poor. Seems quite logical to me, yet very cruel. ;-P
