"As You Like It" is one of Shakespeare's earlier plays; its central conflict is between two evil brothers and the good brothers and related obstacles to marriage for several couples, especially Orlando and Rosalind.  At the center of the play is the "Christian" comedy that has Jaques, a chronically melancholy personage who is preoccupied with the negative aspects of life and and Rosalind, the play's Christian heroine who, though she recognizes the negative aspects of life, retains always her faith and optimism.  Shakespeare's theme of regeneration of humanistic values through Christian faith is prevalent throughout this comedy.
