The square piece of paper has sides of 24 cm. This gives its area as 24*24 = 576 cm^2. The square is cut and the paper used to create an equilateral triangle. The area of an equilateral triangle with sides equal to a is A = `sqrt 3/4*a^2`

576 = `sqrt 3/4*a^2`

=> a^2 = `(576*4)/sqrt 3`

=> a = `sqrt((576*4)/sqrt 3)`

=> a `~~36.47 cm`

The sides of the equilateral triangle created are approximately 36.47 cm.
