What are some outstanding models of British fiction written after World War II?
There are a few models famous for being written right after the war or in conjunction with the end of the war. In fact, an entire genre produced itself out of the results of war.
George Orwell wrote 1984 in 1948 and published it in 1949. This dystopian novel was a result of Orwell's perception of what could happen in the future if politics continued as usual, and the people continued to look the other way as usual. World War II demonstrated the power of propaganda as does the society which is portray in his novel 1984.
William Golding's Lord of the Flies likewise arose as a dystopian novel as a result of WWII. His perception was more written from the perspective of the effect this had on future generations.
One final piece to look at for more of a political satire would be George Orwell's Animal Farm. This work pokes fun at the Communist beginning and the impact of Stalin on a post-WWII society of animals.
