2x + 3y = 8........(1)

x+ 8y = 17.........(2)

using the elimination method, we will multiply (2) by -2 and then add to (1):

==> 2x + 3y = 8

==> -2x - 16y = -34

Now add both equations:

==> -13y = - 26

Now divide by -13

**==> y= 2**

Now to find x, we will substitute in (1):

2x+ 3y = 8

2x + 3*2 = 8

==> 2x = 2

**==> x= 1**
