The set of equations 2x - 4y = 8 and 3x - 6y = 9 have to be solved for x and y.

2x - 4y = 8

=> x - 2y = 4

=> x = 4 + 2y

3x - 6y = 9

=> x - 2y = 3

=> x = 3 + 2y

x = 4 + 2y = 3 + 2y = x is not true for any value of y.

The given set of equations does not have a solution.

2x - 4y = 8

2x = 4y + 8

x = 2y + 4

3(2y + 4 ) - 6y = 9

6y + 12 - 6y = 9

move like terms to the same side:

6y - 6y = 9 - 12

0y = -3

no solutions.

2x - 4y = 8 and 3x - 6y = 9

2x = 4y + 8

x = 2y + 4

plug it in as x into the other problem:

3(2y + 4 ) - 6y = 9

6y + 12 - 6y = 9

move like terms to the same side:

6y - 6y = 9 - 12

0y = -3

this problem does not have a solution.
